C. Salyers - Versatile Artist

I like earthy and rusty things - dark and sparkly things. I like the decay of old, and the shine of new. Modern smooth and chaotic debris.
My styles show this in the archaic paintings of another world, and in the deco-nouveou of ink on paper.

I work in many mediums; acrylic, watercolor, ink, pastels, charcoal, spackle, and fire, and will sometimes even combine them to get the results I want. Sometimes I add old jewelry, stones, and rusty objects for a collage effect.
My supports are usually canvas, wood, and heavy paper, but when an idea strikes and the usual isn't available, I'm liable to use whatever is on hand; the Post-It notes and recycled faxes around my office attest to this.

I'm Quality Control for a construction company. We deconstruct and reconstruct. I really enjoy this as it is an art in itself. The only thing I hate about it is tearing down trees and such (yeah I'm a tree huggin hippie at heart). But to tear apart a building ... it's a playground of twisted metal and concrete. And to make a road, or a building... well, it's a lot like smacking your funny bone - it hurts like hell, but all you can do is laugh.

I've been an artist forever, but didn't turn it into a career until a few years ago. My daughters' many requests to sit together at the table and paint and draw is what made me remember that this is what I really love to do. Sometimes we forget those childhood dreams, and I thank my children for bringing it back to me.

I started selling in 2002 and my art is now in private homes and businesses across the United States and internationally.

I reside under a giant mushroom in North Florida with my husband and two daughters.

I'm always on the verge of a smile.

"Abstract art is to the art world, what illusionists are to real life. With skilled hands we help people see, not things as they are, but things as they could be." - C. Salyers
